If you're coming here in summer, especially around the 4th of July, keep things in perspective. It's busy. Really busy. One can sit down and eat inside or do the Drive-In experience outside. Super cute young waitress did the best she could considering how busy they were. Service was slow and they screwed up our order a little. We loved the sliders, chicken tenders and shakes. The sliders with onions and pickle are as close as you're going to get to a White Castle up here so if that is your thing order up. I did and I thought they were great! We went to Pirates Cove mini golf just down the block after and had a great day!

Went here with a group of four, including one kid. I got the burger basket. The burger and fries were very good. The other two adults had a BLT basket and a turkey burger basket, and said those were good as well. Everyone had a chocolate shake, and those were excellent! Would definitely come here again the next time I'm in Traverse City.

Pros: Good service, could see the bay from my seat. Clean, trying for old dinner atmosphere. Didn't really convince but was OK. Very good Malt. Cons: $26 for two quarter pound burger baskets, a Coke and a Chocolate Malt seems high. Would not have been if the burgers were not bland, tasteless and very dry. Can't see a reason to recommend or go back.

Best shakes in town. Hands down. Went this summer with my 7 yr old cousin and she even commented on how slow the service was inside. I wish the waitress we had was a little bit mire chipper and timely, they weren't busy at all and I felt like we were bothering her by being there. I have a problem when people don't identify that the place they work at is extremely nostalgic to many if it's customers and when you have a sour attitude it ruins it for them. Other than that we had a good time, the food was as expected. **I should mention this was an exception because when we went there last spring as a treat for the girls behaving while shopping we pulled into the drive thru and though it was closed the gentleman brought our shakes to the car knowing that was 1/2 the fun for us. I really appreciated that (not to mention the raspberry shake was to die for)! :)

Neat 1950's style diner. The service was good and the food tasted alright but I'm giving this place one star because I got food poisoning from their tuna salad. I am very confident that it was their food because I was on a camping trip with friends and we had ate all the same foods prior to eating at this diner. My case may be an isolated incident but it shows that they don't handle their food with the caution that is expected of them.

Food and service excellent! Homemade so yummy! I give this place all thumbs up!

Their burgers taste like they made the patties on the spot and grilled them with love. We got carry-out, and the packaging is top notch. Individual condiments and silverware. Would eat here again, for sure

It was fine, but not special. Burger was typical. Fries were okay but nothing amazing. The malts were excellent.

What a great burger place!! I like that I can get a 1/8 lb burger and add cool stuff like green olives. The decor takes you back in time. Serving staff is all great too!!!

My husband and I stopped here for a quick bite. There's an "extension" or whatever of Don's by us down in Novi, MI. Not sure if this place is a chain, or how related the two places are. Either way, the place is bright, very clean, and has the feel of an old 50's diner. Some of the stuff looks like it might've originally been from the 50s since it was in some shabbier condition. But nothing was horrible. We sat inside the restaurant and ordered 3 sliders and an order of fries to share. The sliders aren't like other sliders I'm accustomed to. I'm used to sliders being a little greasy with sauteed onions, melty american cheese and a pickle. Don's seems to view sliders as just tiny hamburgers with all the fixings that regular hamburgers come with. That's inaccurate, in my opinion. So the "slider" was a little dry, but still good. The fries were standard fries that seemed straight out of the freezer bag. Nothing stellar, but not bad either. Our server was friendly (what's with the stupid uniforms the women have to wear?!), and the food was prompt. I can't complain, but not sure I'll be back.

If you want a burger, this is probably the most consistent one you will find. It has been tasting the same for a long, long time. The service is fast and the shakes are delicious. The building itself could use a little work, but hey, it gives it that old time era feel.

  • John M.

This place is a nice 1950's looking diner up on the route 31 strip of Traverse City. The burgers are very good and so are the shakes. The portions are generous and the service is friendly. The waitresses wear authentic uniforms and there is a jukebox and memorabilia all around the place. It's not really a drive-in though. Looks like dine-in and carryout only. My son had the shrimp basket and he told me it was good as well. It was fairly crowded even though there are lots of choices around. It has a while tile floor that look like it hadn't been cleaned in a while but I can live with that because the food was good and reasonably priced. I would go back again.

  • Micah S.

Burgers were amazing! Of course, the chocolate shake was great as well. Love the fresh French fries. Took a few minutes to get our food but it was fresh and delicious and our server was excellent - friendly, polite, very accommodating. We got the nostalgic feel of the drive-in vintage experience -really sweet place. We'll definitely come back! If you're from out of town, don't waste your money on GMO corporate garbage... Try supporting a great local place with fresh ingredients!

Don's is great little burger joint. Fun atmosphere. The food is good and greasy. Yummy shakes too.

This could possibly be the best burger I have ever had. I was much more impressed than I thought I would be! My husband thought his chocolate malt was extra good as well. I would recommend eating here. Get the burger for sure, it stood out, very well done Don's! Cute vintage place too. I'll be back soon.

What's to say... Everything has been pretty accurate in the reviews. It's a greasy spoon and there is a wonderful sheen upon my iPhone as I type this! The fries were underwhelming. They were thick cut steak fries, and kids probably go crazy for them. But nothing wrong with them in general. The burger was large and liked high with fresh toppings. It might have actually been a real tomato (and not a grocery store Monsanto creation). It was real meat (yea!) but under seasoned. In a greasy spoon, don't be afraid to open the flavor profile! The waitstaff was great. Cheerful and helpful! They steered me to where I needed to be... As in, "Stay with the burgers and get a Shake". See my pics for the daily changing burger menu! After reading the reviews, I had to commit to the item that apparently put this place on the map... Fresh Fruit Cherry Malt (malt is sweeter than the shake). Thank you Yelpers! While I was hovering in the 3.5-4 star range... Decent food, good service, kitschy 50s diner... The Malted bought them a star! Apparently this place is 5 Stars if you know how to do it... So 5 stars it is!

  • Morgan Richelle M.

This place rules, and it is without a doubt one of my favorites in Traverse City, but also of all time. For a good reason, too. The food is good, not just "okay" or "tolerable." It actually has flavor, tastes fresh, makes you want to go back for more, etc. The service is always fast, kind, and enjoyable! The waitresses are dressed in the 50's Poodle Dresses that I know I just had to have when I was a little girl during Halloween. We have had the sweetest waitresses every time, so that means a lot! The décor inside Don's takes you back... even if you're a younger one like me- it still enchants you with inspiration and respect for simpler days. I admire everything about this era, and wish some things never changed. Anyway, a little secret for the kiddos (or if you're an adult/child like me) pay an extra $1.00 to receive the raddest paper car to serve your food in! WHAT! Seriously amazing. Perfect for hamsters and other small creatures. You MUST bring your family here. The prices are honestly some of the best we've seen in TC.

I'm sorry to say that while I respect that this is a classic joint and it has a nostalgic feel probably with lots of memories for people, I would not go back. Crazy expensive for basic greasy spoon burgers and fries. Nothing that special and outrageously priced. Malts were great but to spend around 60 bucks for burgers fries and shakes for 4 is out of control. First place I ever found from Roadfood.com that I didn't like and I'm annoyed that it is listed on that site. Quarter pound burger basket - that's fries and a spoonful of coleslaw is $7.89. Add cheese? $8.64. Add mushrooms? $9.59. Mushrooms are 95 cents??? Now I'm paying 10 bucks for a burger and fries. Medium chocolate shake? $3.59. Make it a malt? $4.23. Starting to get the idea? Not impressed - sorry... I was mad when I left and that's not a good thing.

Good cheeseburgers, the patty could have benefited from a little salt and pepper, otherwise really good cheeseburger. I had the cheeseburger with the fried egg on it. Egg was cooked perfectly, with a little running so the yellow coated the burger as I ate it. Great shakes, tried both the vanilla and chocolate, both good. Cool looking place inside, like an old fashion diner. Wait staff friendly and attentive.

  • Jamie H.

Standard burgers, fries and onion rings. Shakes are outstanding and the atmosphere is fun and very kid friendly. Had a great bacon swiss burger with onion rings and cherry coke. Every one at my table was happy with their meal. Definitely stop and enjoy!

Just had lunch here today. Liz was our server and she was great. Nice sense of humor. Burgers were okay. Loved the char on mine. Buns need a little work as they fell apart and left you with a mess. Fries were blah. Onion rings are good. Good service was a plus. Interior needs a little updating and cleaning. Stop in when in TC.

  • Veronica T.

Great food and service. If you like an old-fashioned atmosphere this is the place. The burgers are great!

    (4)

Overpriced menu items. Environment needs improvement and upgrading. Staff was very gracious and smiles on their faces. For two of us to eat two burgers and fries and water to drink came to $24.00.

Come here for one thing: the chocolate malt, with extra malt. It will make you believe in a higher power.

  • Amy M.

At first I thought this was an actual drive-in where you eat in your car and I was excited - I love that so I was a little bummed when I realized it wasn't. Very friendly staff, food is served up very quickly and it pretty good too. I have had better burgers but the atmosphere made it fun. The kids meals appeared to be served in an old fashioned cardboard car which was awesome. Loved the fried spear pickles. . I meant to get a shake to go and forgot because we were in a bit of a hurry to get somewhere but next time I am in TC I will have to stop in and at least get one to go! Love shakes but they are so filling they are often hard to eat with a meal!

  • Stacy B.

My impression of the Don's is that it's been there for a while .Although, the food was decent, I thought the place could have been tidied up a bit. One of my biggest pet peeves is when the wait staff does not refill your glass or ask if you need a refill. I thought the service was unsatisfactory. (In defense of the wait staff, it was a busy summer day around dinner time.)We ordered their chheseburgers with season fries and onions rings along with a shake to split. I thought the cheeseburgers were decent. The best part of my meal were the onion rings, they were fried perfection.

    (3)
  • Jon V.

Don's Big D burger was 100% awesomeness. They press their own patties which makes the burgers really juicy! Fries were thick cut and excellent.

Don's Drive-In is the best place for food, my family and I always go to Don's after we leave South Manitou Island because they have the best burgers and if you ask me you'll want one of them after you come off the island.

  • Dean K.

Love, love, love the burgers and shakes. Just don't go too big on the burger. If you do, it is likely to be undercooked in the middle. Another tip - you're in Michigan. Get the cherry shake.

  • Jim D.

Wife and I stopped here this past weekend. Each order a burger and Med Shake. We shared the fried mushrooms and onion rings. Bill with tip came to about $30. Kinda pricey for lunch at a drive-in. Everything was ok, just not seasoned well. Burgers were juicy, just not much taste.

Just left Don's, and it was great......as usual. The strawberry malt was perfect, and the burgers are always the best. If you ask for the fries well done, they come out nice and crispy.

Not bad. Needs a little TLC on the decor end and they should make it look a little more authentic. I had a foot long~generous with the chili but they should add mustard and onions from now on.

I have to admit that even though I've lived in this area for almost twenty years I had never been to Don's Drive In before a few days ago. As a matter of fact, the only "Drive-In" action I'd ever had was a Mississippi branch of Sonic, which, if you see my review, was not so much fun for me. Anyway, I went here just recently with some friends and absolutely love it. It's not too expensive and the food is really yummy. I mean, it's diner type food, don't come in here expecting four star food and service, but if you're going out to relax and chat this is a great place to do it. Anyway, make sure you check it out.

Totally fun place. Super thick shakes - they'll barely go through the straw. The burgers are really tasty - no fillers or garbage, just meat and whatever toppings you want.

Best shakes and malts..... period!! Great child hood memories there......I make is a point to stop in and see the staff (some of whom have been there since I was a young child) and treat myself to a big ole burger and malt! See you this summer Don's Drive in...

I grew up in TC, not too far from Don's. As kids, we used to walk down in the summer to play mini-golf and have burgers and shakes. The place has been updated and the mini golf is gone, but the food is still awesome. The burgers, onion rings and seriously thick shakes are to die for. My husband and I always make a point to stop in when we visit from Chicago every summer. We love Don's!

This is a good place to eat every day if you want to blow a gasket and drop dead before you turn 40...that said, I loved it. Major grease, and that is a big turn on for me....I was sportin wood in my booth. The staff was sitting around indulging in some moronic conversation that made me uncomfortable, but in the end i would go to this place every day for the rest of my life if I could

Oh, Don. How I miss our love affair. But I have vowed to eat healthier to try to extend and enhance my years on this planet. For those of you still in the throes of diner bliss, you must try Don's. He'll rock your world. Don't make the same rookie mistake I did and veer off from the traditional burger and fries. Don't try to be different for the sake of being different. Just get the dang burger and fries and chocolate malt (my personal fave) and let the greasy goodness take you to your happy place. Say hello for me... (Don, I may have to get just one more taste when I'm feeling naughty!)

  • Ryan E.

I grew up with periodic trip trips to TC...and the obligatory stop to Don's. If one does not stop at Don's while in TC, you have not been to TC. The shakes are great, its a greasy spoon, don't expect much (but expect a lot), and have fun. Its fun on a plate.

BEST BURGERS EVER. I've turned into a non-red meat eater, but when I visit Don's, it is one of the very few times that I will push aside my ways and have a big juicy burger. They are heavenly, amazing, mouth-watering, you-get-the-idea good. Order with ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles. Their shakes are...(I literally paused for a minute trying to thing of a word) there isn't a word for them. They are !!!!! good. I actually recommend the chocolate malt (not shake, malt), but the cherry shake is delicious as well if you are in the mood for fruit. Fries- beware of the "car load". When I went to Don's for the first time I went with just my parents. We ordered the car load not anticipating it would actually be a car load. Way too many fries for the three of us. The waitress just laughed when she brought us the tower of fries. Her bee-hive was hidden behind them. The staff are all in costume, the 50s/60s music is always playing, and nothing is better than feeling you stepped back in time to a simpler era. I love Don's Drive In!!

  • Marin C.

I've only lived here on and off for about 3 years, but I live around the bend from this place and it always looks crowded. I figured there must be a reason besides the neon paint job. I have not yet had the food, but I did have a raspberry shake the other day and it was tasty. I also got to try the chocolate malt and the chocolate shake and both of them were also delish. Highly recommended on the shake front. Prolly not something one should consume on a weekly basis, but I am gonna be tempted from now on and I'll have to go back and try the french fries another time.

My family and I love Don's and make it a point to come here every time we drive into Traverse City from Elk Rapids. My grandparents live in Detroit, and consequently we have been to the Don's here however much more the experience of the 50's lovin' in Traverse City! The pull up drive in is great. I go here once a year, and every time I see the same waitress working there who is just so polite. Definitely order some shakes! This place is usually busy. (Luck of the draw when it comes to the wait, if you do find yourselves in a line you won't regret it)

I have always wanted to try Don's Drive In, and July 2013, finally stopped in. They offer drive up style dining, where they bring the food out to your car, which I thought would be neat, but it was too cold and raining, so we went inside. The restaurant is themed after a 1950's diner, and although it seemed fairly clean, it is in need of some TLC. I was here with my very picky teenage daughter. We each ordered the burger basket, which comes with fries and cole slaw. We also each ordered a shake. Now I like a greasy burger now and then, but these went too far. The burgers were good, but dripping with grease, I mean down my arm grease. Yuck. I could feel my arteries clogging with every bite, and to say it was messy is an understatement. The fries were the fat kind, like you get at Red Robin, minus the seasoning. I did not care for them at all. The shakes saved the day. They were yummy and thick, and tasted homemade. Our server was efficient, although not friendly or welcoming at all. Our bill was $27, which I felt was a bit pricy for what we ordered. I probably will not go back here again unless it's for a shake.

Several people raved about this place, so we have it a try on our way out of town. In our opinion, it is highly overrated...there are a ton of these 50s style place around the country and this one was nothing special ( I realize that this one is genuinely from the 50s). If you've ever been to a Johnny Rockets you can get the same atmosphere. Given that, since everyone was raving about the place, it thought the food would be great...it was average, at best. I had a cheeseburger and fries, and I have had a lot better at many other places.

The burger gets no better than at Don's!! Hand-formed and cooked to order. Pricey, but well worth it milkshakes. Delicious steak fries. Yummy potato salad and cole slaw. Fifties decor. Curb service! When in Traverse City.....definitely a MUST!!'

The saying is true...if you haven't been to Don's, you haven't been to Traverse City. When I think of Traverse City, I think of burgers, beaches, shopping and sunsets. For some reason we love eating burgers when we visit. Seeing that Don's was near our hotel, we decided to stop in after a long day on Mackinac Island. Luckily for us, Don's was open late so we were able to grab a bite to eat before we crashed back at the hotel. The inside of Don's is very retro with diner-esque qualities. Just sitting and looking around made me wish I lived during the 50's. Again, it was a long day so I don't remember too many details but I do remember being able to watch the beautiful sunset through the windows....and the red booths. My bf ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered 2 sliders with mushrooms on the side. We split a side of fries. I also ordered a small root beer but was told (or warned) that it was only 8 oz. It definitely was miniature but no one should be drinking more pop than that anyways. My burgers were great, exactly what I expected. They didn't have all the fixings of a traditional burger but you could always get that on the side if you want. The fries were really fresh too...wish we ordered more. Food is cooked fresh when ordered and the turn around time was super quick. If we are ever in the area, we will definitely stop by Don's again!

Super cute spot for some good old fashioned diner food! Great place for kids and families, love the nostalgic decor.

Food was mediocre, but the service was horrible. I timed how long it took to get my Diet Coke-20 minutes. Ridiculous. Get it together-service is almost more important than the food at a place like this.

First, let me just say I have been eating Don's hamburgers and drinking their milkshakes since I have had teeth to consume them with. That being said, I will do my best to write an honest review of my favorite burger joint of all time. This place is a Northern Michigan icon, and if it is your first time you are required to get a real fruit cherry malt/shake (your crazy if you don't get a malt). To be fair, I usually order the chocolate one but any flavor they have is going to be insane. Thick, fresh, creamy, and made to order=perfection. Now to the burgers...If your feeling like a man v. food situation, I would challenge you to order the Big D. But if you are trying continue your day without a food coma, just order the 1/4 lb. Its plenty big. I order mine medium rare because after 15 odd years of eating here I have noticed they have a tendency to overcook the meat a bit. Also, I always order a side of their deep fried breaded mushrooms. They are some of the most delicious morsels on earth. They are accompanied by a great ranch dressing that makes for a match made in heaven. The fries are steak cut and are also pretty good. It would be a veteran move to order them well done. This place has an amazing 50s decor, complete with waitresses in pink uniforms, and the service has always been great. If your in the mood for a burger don't waste your time anywhere else!

I'm all for a kitschy diner vibe, but this place was too dingy to be charming. The menu was boring, everything tasted the same, fried in old oil, then fried some more. The only thing saving it from 1 stardom is the very accommodating manager - friendly and professional. You couldn't pay me to eat there agin.

Dont be scared by their pink building, the food is really great. The burgers tasted really good, very greasy though. So if you on a diet I would not recommend getting it. Their rasperry shake was delicious!!! Best one I had so far and had real nice chunks of raspberries in it too.

Sorry to my dear boyfriend who wanted to share a piece of his childhood with me, but Don's failed to impress. I ordered a chocolate milk shake, cheeseburger with fries, and we got some mushrooms to start. The food wasn't necessarily bad, but it was definitely not great. I can do greasy burgers, so long as they have a kick of flavor. The burgers at Don's are greasy with a side of grease. No real seasoning, no memorable beef experience.

Really Good Burger and Load of Fries! I really like burgers and this is a nice burger! I love to make the trip over to Don's when I'm in town during the summer! It is a fun casual greasy spoon with good burgers in a good ol' fashion diner atmosphere!

DANG, this place is good! We tried on our first day in TC. As we were driving around, my girlfriend said that we HAD to go there, and I scoffed, laughed at her, and told her that I didn't want to get food poisoning for the rest of the trip. Yes, I had my judgey hat on and got snooty about the decor, which I will now not-so-secretly admit is campy and fun rather than tacky. Best burgers ever, best shakes ever, and outdoor seating by the water! I can see why this place does well. I will be back next time we visit TC!

Been there twice in the last three months. Burgers are tasty - if more than a bit greasy. My vanilla malts have been the best I've ever had (and I've had a LOT of malts in 60 years). The period decor - 50s - is pretty tired. Service was quick, capable and attentive. Prices are OK ... not especially a great deal but I felt I received good value for what I spent given the experience. I'll be back.

In a nutshell: Don's is worth a visit. My husband couldn't believe that I'd never been to Don's in the few years I'd lived there and the many (many) years we visited there. So while we were there on vacation, we decided it was a fine time to go! So we packed up my dad's minivan and the five of us were off! It's really a small place and seating is first come first served - although they do have a few corner booths that are "reserved" for parties of four or more. But they still have someone milling about to direct you to tables after they've been bussed. The waiting area isn't big at all, so if there's a big crowd, you may end up waiting outside in the parking lot. (This is NOT the type of place that takes your name or gives you pagers.) Of course, you could avoid the inside altogether and stay in your car--it IS a drive-in, after all! Our table ordered burgers, milkshakes, curly fries, regular fries, and onion rings. I'll start with the best thing...the milkshakes. Yes, everything you've heard about the milkshakes rings true--totally delish. The waitress asked if we wanted real fruit or just flavoring... (Why anyone would NOT order real fruit is beyond me.) And the shake did indeed have a lot of real strawberries in it. I would order that again in a heartbeat. The next best? A tie between the curly fries and the onion rings. The onion rings were hot, thick, and crispy. The curly fries were also hot, as well as nicely seasoned and very curly. They were both good and I scarfed them down, although they weren't the best I've ever had. Next best--although, by this time we're actually to the mediocre/meh level--are the burgers and the regular fries. The burger was tasty enough I guess, but it was nothing special. It was overcooked to my taste (but obviously still edible) and was actually a little dry. The fries were big and thick cut but they weren't nearly as crispy on the outside as I would have liked--and they were underseasoned. Our waitress was great and very personable. Lots of great small talk that never felt forced or "too much" and she stopped by just enough. I would definitely recommend a stop here, although I wouldn't be expecting the best food you've ever had.

I was in TC this weekend visiting the bf's fam, and he had been raving about Don's for the past year so we finally got to try it. Getting there was an adventure in itself as we decided to take the '57 Chevy and about halfway there it started shutting off for no particular reason! But we were determined to get one of those famous malts so after several minutes spent on the side of the road, we finally arrived! Don's is super classic on the outside and the inside - it looks straight out of the 50s. I loved the decor inside and I felt like I was in Happy Days. The waitress was great and she greeted us right away. Let me tell you...they aren't lying about those malts being amazing!! I got a chocolate malt and it only lasted about 5 minutes it was so good! Perfectly smooth and chocolately, with just enough malt to taste. I loved it! We actually got a large and split it, and it ended up being the equilavent of 2 mediums (shout-out to the waitress for explaining that to us instead of letting us pay more money for 2 mediums!). For dinner I ordered a burger with cheese, ketchup, mustard, and onion, and a side of fries. I really wanted onion rings but I heard the fries were really good so I tried them. Honestly, the fries were not that good. They are big, thick cut and not very crispy. I'm the type of girl who hunts for the crispiest fry in the bottom of the bag, and these didn't have anything close to crispy. Now, they WERE hot and obviously freshly made, but they just weren't my type. I did get to try a few onion rings and those were AMAZING!! I want to go back solely to get onion rings. Crispy on the outside, with a soft ring of onion inside...YUM! The burger was...good. I thought it was a bit strange when the waitress didn't ask us how we wanted them cooked, but I figured they knew what they were doing. When it came out it looked and smelled delicious, and it tasted pretty good, but it was a bit overcooked - definitely on the well-done end of the spectrum. That didn't stop me from eating it though! It really was a good burger. Like Jennifer H. said...this place is definitely worth a visit. I was actually shocked at how many people I saw eating things besides the burgers! It looks like their other food may be pretty good too.

Better burger than at a fast food place for sure. But let's be real people it's dons. It's a greasy spoon. The booths are uncomfortable but the servers are friendly. Great place to go it u wanna relive the old days. Just don't go too often or u wont have many more days to relive. Because u will die

No trip to TC is complete without a trip to Don's Drive In. Yea, the burgers are good, fries fine and other menu items tasty but the shakes and malts are mandatory. With all of the changes that have go on over the past 30 years, Don's has been a staple. I really hope it stays that way.

Love, love, love the burgers and shakes. Just don't go too big on the burger. If you do, it is likely to be undercooked in the middle. Another tip - you're in Michigan. Get the cherry shake.

Best shakes and malts..... period!! Great child hood memories there......I make is a point to stop in and see the staff (some of whom have been there since I was a young child) and treat myself to a big ole burger and malt! See you this summer Don's Drive in...

Don's Big D burger was 100% awesomeness. They press their own patties which makes the burgers really juicy! Fries were thick cut and excellent.

The burger gets no better than at Don's!! Hand-formed and cooked to order. Pricey, but well worth it milkshakes. Delicious steak fries. Yummy potato salad and cole slaw. Fifties decor. Curb service! When in Traverse City.....definitely a MUST!!'

Really Good Burger and Load of Fries! I really like burgers and this is a nice burger! I love to make the trip over to Don's when I'm in town during the summer! It is a fun casual greasy spoon with good burgers in a good ol' fashion diner atmosphere!

Don's Big D burger was 100% awesomeness. They press their own patties which makes the burgers really juicy! Fries were thick cut and excellent.

I had a cheeseburger and fries, and I have had a lot better at many other places.

great burgers cooked the way you want them. fries and rings ok but can be a little greasy. a real diner and one of the best places for a burger in tc.

I grew up with periodic trip trips to TC...and the obligatory stop to Don's. If one does not stop at Don's while in TC, you have not been to TC. The shakes are great, its a greasy spoon, don't expect much (but expect a lot), and have fun. Its fun on a plate.

The burgers were really good. My curly fries weren't very seasoned and some were undercooked in the middle. The chocolate malt was amazing but just pushed me off the edge into stuffedville.

Don's Drive-In is the best place for food, my family and I always go to Don's after we leave South Manitou Island because they have the best burgers and if you ask me you'll want one of them after you come off the island.

Love, love, love the burgers and shakes. Just don't go too big on the burger. If you do, it is likely to be undercooked in the middle. Another tip - you're in Michigan. Get the cherry shake.
